Scoping call. A 25 to 45-minute call with the partner most relevant to your matter, often both partners where the work spans transactional and contested-matter scope.
Engagement letter. Written scope, fee structure (hourly, fixed-fee, or retainer as appropriate), and any specific assumptions. Work begins after the engagement letter is countersigned.
